Montgomery High Education Foundation

Thank you, Thank You, Thank You

The Montgomery Education Foundation (MEF) would like to thank everyone for their support so far during the 2009/2010 school year.  A big thank you to everyone who has donated money this year to the MEF, either to our endowment or through our “Dollar a Day” pledge drive.  Every bit helps!  Our Second Annual Crab Feed, held January 30, 2010, was a huge success.  Thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered, or bid on items at the live and silent auctions.  The event was well attended and raised over $20,000 to help support the grants funded by the MEF.  We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s event which is scheduled for January 29, 2011!

Spring Grants Funded

This spring we funded our second round of grants, using some of the funds raised at the Crab Feed.   Every student will benefit from the grants since all of the departments have received grant funding, including:

  • “Take a Walk in Our Shoes” Freedom Writer Project for English classes
  • Support of the Tech Committee which purchases equipment for all of the departments
  • Spring “Supply Order” to purchase much needed items for all of the departments
  • Support for a technical advisor to train students in operating the performing arts equipment
  • AVID college tour to UC Davis
  • Substitute Teacher Relief for English teachers to grade papers
  • STAR Testing Rewards
  • Special Education Cooking Project

Calling All MHS Student Artists!!!

The Montgomery cafeteria needs some colorful, appealing artwork to bring it to life, and you could be the artist who creates it! Design a colorful, abstract mural for the south or north wall of the cafeteria. The design must be relatively simple and should not include complicated details such as faces. Final dimensions are approximately 37.5' long x 6' high. Entries will be judged by professional artists at the nonprofit organization Artstart. If your design wins, you will be invited to help paint your mural on the cafeteria wall and get paid! (You must also apply to Artstart in order to get paid this stipend.) The deadline for your mural design is Friday, April 9, 2010 at 4 p.m. Please submit your design to Liz Perez in the Montgomery High School office. On the back side of your design, please provide your name, phone number and email address. The deadline to apply to Artstart is Friday, April 30. Applications are available on the Artstart Web site at www.artstart.us. Questions: Contact Montgomery Education Foundation Member, Melissa Kelley, 537-8783 or mkelley@sonic.net.

Everyone was a winner at the Second Annual Montgomery High School versus Santa Rosa High School Blood Drive held the week of February 8th.  A total of 125 pints were donated to the Blood Bank of the Redwoods: MHS – 51 pints, SRHS – 74 pints.

Upcoming Events Sponsored by the MEF

The Human Race is being held on Saturday, May 8th.  Please support the MEF by either pledging Principal Laurie Fong and/or participating yourself on behalf of the MEF.  You can donate by going to the Human Race website: www.humanracenow.org.  If you prefer, you can drop off pledges at the Montgomery High School office or mail your donation to MEF, 1250 Hahman Drive, Santa Rosa, CA 95405. Checks should be made payable to HUMAN RACE (write “Donation MEF” in the memo line).  If you have any questions, please contact Montgomery High School at 528-5512 or Bev Zanetti at bblz@sonic.net.

The final Teacher Appreciation brunch of the school year will be held on May 4, 2010 in the school cafeteria and will be a picnic theme.  If you would like to help with the event and/or bring a salad or dessert to show your appreciation for the teachers and staff at Montgomery High School, please contact Lynn Connolly at lynnsconnolly@sbcglobal.net.

Anyone who is interested in helping out with the annual Senior Breakfast, which will be held on May 28th, can contact Priscilla Vivio at pvivio@neteze.com, and if they would like to help defray the cost of the breakfast they can mail their donation of $10 (or more to sponsor another child) to MEF, 1250 Hahman Drive, Santa Rosa, CA 95405.

How You Can Help the MEF:

  • Attend MEF meetings.  Come join us the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Student Services Center to find out more about our organization.

  • Participate in or assist with our events held throughout the year.

  • Register your Safeway Club Card at www.eScrip.com and select the Montgomery Education Foundation as the beneficiary (call 1-877-723-3929 if you have forgotten your club car number).  You can also register your Macy’s card and your other credit cards.  It is free and easy.  Oliver’s has now joined eScrip!  A percentage of each purchase will be donated to the MEF.

  • Dine out at Legends at Bennett Valley Golf Course.  We will receive 10% of your total check whenever your dine at Legends and 20% of your total check on “Montgomery High Day”, which is on the first Friday of the month.  Just tell your server that you are there to support Montgomery High School.

  • Do you “Everyday Shopping” at Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, footlocker.com, Verizon Wireless, Travelocity and 1-800-Flowers.com, using our school code: 6ZXJ, which will result in a percentage of each purchase being donated to the MEF!  For more information visit www.schoolPAX.org or call 1-877-724-5729.

  • Have your student take their online drivers education course at www.highschooldriversed.com and use the discount code: hsde105 which will save your student $15 off of the normal $69.95 fee, and will contribute $20 to the MEF. This drivers education class provides students with the knowledge needed to earn a learners permit and drivers license, and offers students the opportunity to take online practice tests.

The MEF is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
